Patient comfort is top priority for Dr. Ott and the team at Sauk Trail Dental! Comfort means being free from pain and being as relaxed as possible. Your concerns and fears will be heard and taken very seriously. Some people experience anxiety with dental visits and prefer to have sedation to ease fears. The following measures are available for patients:
Local anesthetic is an extremely effective way of eliminating pain during dental procedures. This accomplished by injecting anesthetic around the area to be worked on. Topical anesthetic is applied at the injection site prior to the injection. The anesthetic is then administered with slow, gentle technique that most patients report as pain free!
Nitrous Oxide is a relaxing agent administered through a mask over the patient's nose. It is used in addition to local anesthetic. Nitrous Oxide helps many patients to feel relaxed during their dental procedure. Because the gas is flushed from the system with completely with the administration of oxygen, patients are able to drive themselves to and from their appointment even when using Nitrous Oxide.
For patients who desire to be sedated during their procedure, Dr. Ott can provide an oral sedative for patients. This is taken one hour prior to the dental appointment and allows most patients to be asleep or completely relaxed during their dental procedures. Patients who elect to have oral sedation MUST have a driver to and from their appointment.
