When the nerve of a tooth becomes infected, endodontic (commonly known as root canal) treatment is needed to save the tooth. A root canal is performed through a small opening that allows Dr. Rosenberg to remove the infected tissue, disinfect the space and place filling material within the space.
Let’s face it, the term “root canal” makes most people cringe! The fact is, a root canal is a painless experience. There are times when people are in a significant amount of pain due to infection when a root canal is recommended. In reality it is the pain of the infection that people associate with the root canal… it is the root canal that alleviates the pain.
There are situations when a tooth must be removed from the mouth. This can be the case when a tooth is non-functional or causing damage to other teeth (such as wisdom teeth) or when a tooth is damaged and unrestorable. The removal of a tooth from the mouth is known as an extraction. Extractions are classified as either simple or surgical. A simple extraction is the removal of a tooth that is fully erupted in the mouth. A surgical extraction is the removal of a tooth that is impacted, or not erupted in the mouth.
Simple extractions can often be done by Dr. Rosenberg in the comfort of our office. Local anesthesia and light sedation can be used to ensure complete comfort. Surgical extractions are referred to an oral surgeon where the specialty is surgical extraction with sedation.
